In the summer of 1997, the Society performed at a fund-raising supper in the Merchant Adventurers Hall.
Letter addressed to the Secretary
Letterhead reads: The Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York
Dear Fiona,
I should be grateful if you could pass on my thanks and appreciation to the members of the University of York Gilbert & Sullivan Society who sang so nicely for us at our summer fund-raising supper last Tuesday. We had a record attendance and talking to members and their guests, the opportunity to hear Gilbert and Sullivan was clearly a major attraction in an evening which raised over £2,000.00.
I hope the singers also enjoyed the evening and I am grateful to Pippa and yourself in particular and to Mhairi Sheail for the assistance in setting up the performance. Members and guests all left in a very cheerful frame of mind.
With best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Colin Shepherd
