- More potential Presidents were floated- Frankie Howard considered "too common", Eric Morcambe, Lord George Howard, Patrick Moore and Robert Dougall.
- They seem to have a real problem with getting enough people to audition- only three auditioned in the first instance for The Zoo 83. However, more than two dozen auditioned for Ruddigore 84.
- Lord George Howard and Patrick Moore appointed as President and Vice-President respectively.
- The "unconstitutional" mascot was Moxy, the "Pirates of Penzance effigy".
- Audrey Price died. Derek Price continued to sit on the audition panel, but he wasn't assigned a free ticket, as he had been in previous years.
- The Grand Duke was proposed. Pro- "it has a lot of parts". Con- "prohibitively boring".
- For the first time, money is charged for programmes. This is due to the committee being unable to find a sponsor for the production.
- We will never lend scenery to YUDS (York University Drama Soc); well, hardly ever.
- Apparently a panic caused by the General Election postponed The Zoo 83.
- The show made £227 profit.
- The Grand Duke was proposed. Pro- "it has lots of parts". Con- "prohibitively boring".
